What You Need to Know: 6-12

Keeping the Learning Alive

It is important during this time that we continue to reinforce skills already taught this school year while deepening each student's learning experience.  We strive to balance online activities that require a device with activities that students and families can do outside (while practicing safe social distancing). Students can write in journals, observe nature, watch Ted Talks of interest and share their learning (either in a Google Hangouts Meet or in writing)—the possibilities are endless. We know that face-to-face classroom instruction cannot be replicated online. Our goal is to maintain communication with our students and continue to do whatever we can, as best as we possibly can.

What to Expect

Each Monday at 9:00am weekly lessons for each grade level and content area will be posted on the district’s website.  The website allows students and families to access all posted lessons in one place. In addition Fairhaven High teachers will be posting lessons for the week on Google Classroom. Students should submit completed assignments on their teacher’s Google Classroom.

Suggested Schedule

Students are urged to create a schedule for themselves. Weekly lessons arrive on Mondays from every teacher. Lessons equate to approximately 2 hours on task and 1 hour of reading - independent or class related.  If you have 5 classes, then you have about 10 hours on task and 5 hours of reading.

Plan your day based on your sleep pattern and any family commitments you may have. Below is a template for how you might organize your day.

Where to Go for Help

Teachers are available via email. If you have a question or concern regarding an assignment or your child, please contact the child’s teacher.

Students with an Individual Learning Plan (IEP) or a 504 Plan should receive contact via email from a special educator at FHS. Contact is meant to keep communication lines open and to offer assistance in navigating assignments received.
